Unfair?

To struggle with freaking out at my vendors? So, I had very sweet experiences with most of my vendors. I felt like they cared about my wedding, worked hard to deliver the services that we hired them for, and for the most part became friends. So....fast forward to not quite a month after the wedding and now I am thinking that being friends with a vendor might be a major mistake!

My videographer (a friend through my job) was super reasonable, nice, and responsive. And I still do not have a video, or even a sneak peek! And he is by Facebook friend and I can see on his status that today he is working on a manuscript...NOT MY VIDEO.

The photographer who shot my BM's in our vintage inspired photo shoot is a new friend, someone who I felt I really hit it off with and is full of great ideas, an entrepreneur and pioneer. Also, someone who has texted me, emailed, and is a FB friend. She eloped to San Francisco City Hall last week and is now a newly wed. How rude is it to write to her and say, Congrats on your wedding, I want my photos NOW?

And honestly, if I even get into Jerry Yoon and how badly I would like just ONE PICTURE of my wedding, I might have a conniption. So, I will just ask, "Can you please, please, post ONE photo, or at least send me an email letting me know when they might possibly happen?" That's not too crazy right?

My cake was great, not a "cakewreck"!

Yikes, although I was really happy with my wedding cake there are apparently tons of people who suffer pastry related disasters! Enough so that there is a whole blog devoted to them,http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/. We had many pleased guests who told us it our cake incredibly moist and not too sweet, which is what P was going for. He himself designed and explained his concept to Cakes by Nancy, and in the end even made the decision to include our cute little cake toppers. So, we were happy.

But what about those poor people who have a wedding day tragedy? This happened in a bakery in San Jose so I felt like we escaped relatively unscathed from our own Baker. We could have gone with someone more well known in Northern California but now I'm glad we stayed with my small town baker!

Give me the romance!

The day is closer than it ever has been. I close my eyes in anticipation but still can not sleep! My wedding has taken on a life of its own and will encompass so much more than if P and I have a good time. For one night we will be a beacon of love and light in a murkey and confused world. Not too shabby.

Necklace for sure.

After careful deliberation and checking out your comments I have decided to choose a slightly modified necklace from etsy. I love the color and volume of this necklace and without the extra length I think it will be more flattering with my dress!

Melt Down.

I had my first marriage related meltdown this weekend, 3 days of family and DIY and driving and pressure will do that to you. I blame my caterer, that crazy bi***. More on that later. Now that the dam has burst and I am officially freaking out about 10 days left to the wedding please note one of my (Irrational??) fears.

Although one of my big ideas going into this wedding is that I trust my best friends, aka the BM's, to dress themselves and pick out what is best for each of them, now I am freaking out that one of them is going to go to Burning Man or a lake or a run or something and end up like this:

Because as we hit full stride in wedding preparations, the only people who absolutely must be impressed, wowed, and pleased are me and P. If we think the night was beautiful, then it certainly was.

Wedding Deets.

Or as my dad used to say, "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff". I'm really excited about all the of the wedding planning and the details finally coming together. That being said, I am really hoping that I can forget all about the details the day of the wedding and be fully present and truly awake to experience all the different feelings and sensations of this singular day. One of my favorite blogs, A Practical Wedding states,

"So what I mean to say is this: No matter how pretty your wedding details were, no matter how great your dress is, no matter how beautiful your wedding pictures are, they can't even come close to the beauty of what happens in your soul."

Amen, sister. Let's make it happen.

Location, Location, Location!

I often think that P and I are super lucky or have good karma (this I am attributing 100% to him, I get too riled up and threaten too many shop clerks to accumulate much) and this has been evident so far in our wedding planning. Our wedding reception venue is one of the things that just fell into place. The venue is the Tsakapolous Library Galleria in downtown Sacramento, CA. It’s quite perfect for us for several reasons, where it is, what it is, and what it represents.

We try in our everyday life to be eco-conscious, deliberate in our choices and mindful of our spending. Sacramento is a great town for us to have our wedding in because unlike a destination no one will have to board a jet plane and many of our Bay area friends can car pool or even take the train! It’s close to most of our family and a hidden treasure of a town, and probably where we will end up settling down once we have the city out of our system. P and I also met in Sacramento so it’s fitting that we get married there too.

The Library Galleria itself is fabulous. Neither of us had been there before although it’s in a prominent location downtown, next to the courthouse and Cesar Chavez Park. It’s a 5 story atrium that can fit 500, although we expect about half that number. It is part of the Sacramento Library System and we also feel excited that our money goes to support the Public Library System and not the faceless Hilton’s of the world. It has black granite floors and commissioned sculptures and art that is native to Northern California.

I found myself a few months ago looking for museums and art galleries in Sacramento on the web and discovered the website for our venue www.library galleria.com The pictures are misleading since it’s hard to get a real feel for the space and sometimes it tends to look cheesy from the outside. One weekend when we were visiting family P and I made an appointment to peek at the space on a Saturday. We drove up on Friday evening and cased the joint – we walked around the Library at night and tried to imagine a raging party. I promptly decided that we shouldn’t even show up the next morning. It looked dark and cavernous and not like an awesome dance-until-you-drop location. P had more faith and dragged me to the appointment the next morning where we A) promptly proceeded to fall in love with the vaulted ceilings and spacious dance floor B) fell in love with the wedding coordinator and C) write that woman a check to reserve our date!

Definitely a pretty painless endeavor, our first wedding reception venue visited was the right one for us. I hope the rest of our planning goes as smoothly!
