I had so much fun with my darling friends at my Golden Birthday Dinner party that it made me think we can definitely entertain at our Casa again soon! I think it is totally true that you must build on your success and every time that P and I have people over we get better at being gracious hosts.

Prime example, throwing a party in a nearly empty house means you and your guests must be creative! Since P and I have fallen into that trap of new home buyers, you know the one- Where you buy the house but now you have no money so you have no furniture or anything inside the house... The first time we had people over we had closed on the house but had yet to fill it with very much of anything. My dear Stats was attempting to make her world famous drink, the Flirtini (which has been forever renamed as the Devil's Brew, after the Epic Events of my bachelorette party) and we had no cocktail shaker. She being a resourceful woman, used the only container she could find in the kitchen, an empty potato salad container that she filled with vodka, champagne, pineapple juice and ice and proceeded to shake for all that she was worth.

Suffice it to say, after our wedding we now own a cocktail shaker, champagne flutes, pilsner glasses, crystal ice buckets, you get the picture. And we even learned to buy an extra bag of ice for the evening. So, we are getting better at hosting and will continue learning. How about for the fanciest occasians of all I get some fabulous gold ware from Hygge.

Golden Birthday Gifts!

One of the nicest things about birthdays is birthday wishes and birthday gifts! My lovely co golden birthday revelers gifted me lovely presents. The Sartorialist book and handmade earrings from BIO and the fabulous Picasso framed reproduction of Lump the Dachshund from GRE! So nice to have people in your life who know you and love you.

Yes, if you change into your pj's right away it sort of makes you Filipino.

Golden Dinner Part II

From my email to Bakey describing this weekend: "Also, my new kitchen aid blender not breaking any of my fingers or exploding was good. I, of course, waited till the last minute to pull it out of its box in the garage and did not read the directions and then proceeded to dump astronomical amounts of butternut squash pulp into it for my golden soup. It made some horrible noises I suspect from not being completely placed correctly but at least the shit got liquefied. P had to leave the room because he was convinced I was going to be dead from the 2 horse power motor bursting into flames after that little kitchen battle."

Golden Birthday Party Dinner

Our Fabulous Golden Birthday Party finally came to fruition last Saturday. GRE BM and Mr. Gre, Bio and Mr. Bio, and dear friends T and childhood friend V showed to celebrate as well.

The standouts were getting to use all of our new toys, the champagne flutes, the tableware, the silver (gold) ware, were all new and exciting and wedding gift loot.

The bar featured champagne, white wine, red wine and yes, Goldshlager. Thanks to dear hubs, the evening featured taking shots of this gold infused minty liquer. This might also explain why there are not tons of pictures of after dinner. Our flutes were a fab gift from Stats and our chargers are Macy's most fun registry gift.

I found out from MIL that the yellow bottom of the sea dwelling looking flowers are actually called cockscomb and when fully ripe turn a beautiful reddish purple color. The crysanthamums and cockscomb made a great flower arrangement because they were virtually scentless which didnt compete with the food.

Flower Market Delights!

Am preparing for the Golden Birthday celebration with fresh flowers from the SF Flower Mart, one of my favorite places in the entire city. Right now they are working on huge beautiful autumnal wreaths that you can special order. I looked for flowers I felt would look good on our golden table and came up with these beautiful blooms that are in season.


These cool nubby flowers that look like they belong on the bottom of the ocean.


White chrysanthemums that remind me of Korea. They make a delicious tea that is supposed to cure everything that ails you out of these spike flowers.

An addition to the golden list, interesting accessories. Although I did not give SF furniture and design store Plantation a great review on Yelp (and then was consequently contacted by the owner, Yikes!) I still really love many of their products. Their design and styling far outweighs their customer service (of which, really, there is very little...) and their location in Hayes Valley can't be beat.

Pulled straight out of the show room, give me:

Time with the Girlfriends! What do I want more than anything for my Golden Birthday? Actually, truly, and sincerely, more time with my friends. And I think P benefits from time with the girls too! These pictures are so funny because they are taken by P's friend and show the "real" wedding, aka, when we weren't impeccably groomed and coiffed and had been dancing for hours like our lives depended on it. Also, there may have been some drinks involved.

A fancy frock would be a lovely addition to the golden list. Belongs to none other than GRE BM! You know how there are some people in the world who are just innately great at something? Well my dear friend GRE BM is one of those people who has so much natural grace, kindness, and compassion and excels at being a wonderful listener. GRE is infinitely just and fair and has a natural ability to get down to the heart of the matter better than anyone else I know.
